Surface Preparation & Levelling

Coatings fail on walls that were never properly prepared. We treat fillers, primers, and levelling compounds as the contract between old fabric and whatever finish follows.

When this applies

Choose this discipline when paint is lifting, joints are telegraphing, old repairs feel rough under raking light, or a new colour needs a stable base across mixed substrates.

Typical scope

  • Inspection and moisture notes for affected walls and ceilings
  • Localised removal of loose material and failed patches
  • Filling, sanding, and feathering to agreed flatness
  • Primers matched to substrate — gypsum, lime, or previously coated surfaces
  • Protection of adjacent finishes, floors, and fixed joinery

How we sequence work

  1. Document existing conditions and agree sample patches if needed
  2. Isolate the room or zone and establish dust control
  3. Carry out repair and levelling passes with drying windows respected
  4. Apply primer systems and verify readiness for topcoats or other trades
  5. Hand over with written curing notes before decoration begins

What you receive at handback

  • Marked areas completed to quoted scope
  • Primer specification and drying times in plain language
  • Photos for internal records where useful
  • List of surfaces left for other trades or future phases
